I found this quite amusing, and as a Design Firm, we relate to this every day.
Everyone wants their website, logo and business card to look how they see it in their mind / head and as graphic and website designers - we decipher and transform those thoughts into powerful visual designs concepts.

Last Friday Ben and I attended the 3rd Hervey Bay Business Network luncheon with keynote speaker Karni Liddell, who is a successful and respected Paralympics swimmer.
Born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (a muscle wasting disability which affects all body muscles including internal), Karni has defied Doctors and the odds to have not only lived to the age of 29 but to have successfully embarked on an international sporting career.
I found Karni to be a very well spoken, inspirational and articulated young woman. Her will power, strength and life defining moments she kindly informed us off were truly inspirational and motivational. Her courage, competitiveness and drive, I felt was partly instilled by her parents at an early age as they were great role models (her father being a sporting hero also) plus their implementation of a continuous exercise program from the age of 3 has been phenomenal is Karni achieving such remarkable goals.
Karni holds every Australian record in her contested swimming events.
“Achieving things in life people say can’t be done is one of the greatest pleasures in life. Never say never!” Karni Liddell
What a fantastic luncheon and enlightening / motivational presentation and slide show.
Karni is pictured here with; L-R: Rob Garland from Jobsmart, Jeanette Maynes from Design House, Ted Sorensen Mayor of Hervey Bay, David De Bruin from Quantaslink and Scott Rowe Editor of the Independent.

Here we are again, at the start of a fresh, exciting and prosperous new year. Our first week back has been hectic. A great start to a year that will unveil new ideas, contemporary graphic and website design concepts plus the latest technology techniques for your business.
Being extremely patriotic I’ve decided to fly the Australian flag at the front of our business premises. I was very honoured and proud today when my 91 year old grandfather, an ex service man of World War II visited and raised our flag for the first time! Perfect timing as Australia Day approaches;
moments like these make you proud to be an Aussie!

Last night I was fortunate to be able to attend the Official Opening of the Andy Warhol
Exhibition in Brisbane. I ran into Chris Foley our State MP for Maryborough who is also in my Master of Professional Studies class. There was free food and drinks, plus books and merchandise to purchase and I must say what seemed to be at least 1,000 people dressed in their finest. I had a fantastic time studying all the pieces, films and activities even producing a Pop art portrait of myself!
People are always calling me a mirror and if a mirror looks into a mirror, what is there to see.
Andy Warhol
I was totally in my element, my mind won’t stop racing with ideas after viewing this exhibition! Thank you to the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) you have taken my artistic thinking to a new level…..my clients will love you!

Today I attended a special previewing of the Andy Warhol Exhibition at the Brisbane Modern Art Gallery. The exhibition is not actually open to the public till Saturday the 8th of December 2007. The curator led our group of 9 through the exhibition explaining the time frames and thoughts / events behind his artworks.
….Exclusive to Brisbane, Australia’s first major Andy Warhol retrospective brings together more than 300 works spanning all areas of his practice from the 1950s until his death in 1987 - paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, films, videos and installations.
One of the most influential and important artists of the late twentieth century and the figurehead of Pop art, Andy Warhol created some of the most recognisable images of modern culture. The exhibition includes his important Death in America works; iconic images of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Onassis, Mao Zedong and Elvis Presley; and his Campbells soup cans….

At the beginning of this year I had written about Andy Warhol in my Master of Professional Studies university portfolio assignment and to actually have the opportunity to view one of my favourite artists work and style (Pop art) is absolutely amazing.
This man had an extremely complex mind verging on either profound insanity or sheer genius in my opinion. Some of his artworks are so ususal, especially the Oxidation Painting (1975) he personally urinated on to see the reaction the acrylic paint would have on linen (I could not figure out the logic behind that one)!!!

Recently Design House became a part of the Hervey Bay Business Network that provides first class, non political networking opportunities for Fraser Coast business people while raising vital funds for worthwhile local charities.
Working in closely with Scott Rowe, General Manager of “The Independent Newspaper”, we had the pleasure of designing and developing an informative website for members and interested parties of the Hervey Bay Business Network.
Last week I attended the 2nd business luncheon with keynote speaker Michael Groom who has conquered five of
the globe’s highest mountains (Mount Everest in 1993), without the aid of bottled oxygen. I found Michael extremely interesting and inspirational, thoroughly enjoying his eye opening presentation and slide show.
The food was delicious and the service exceptional.
We really appreciate the opportunity to be a part of such a modern advertising and business / social network that seems to have incite and vision through the unity of so many businesses on an equal and professional level. Last night, we attended the Fraser Coast Business Awards at the Carriers Arms Hotel in Maryborough. Last year, at the same event Design House won the award for Other Services
This year, Design House came up again, to win the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce Special Commendation Award. As we went there with no expectations this was a prestigious award to win! I was impressed to see the other successful business owners / operators even some of our clients as it is wonderful to be recognised by your peers. A Big Congratulations to BOZMAC (Tilt Slide Truck Specialists) one of our clients, on their award as I personally know how hard they work on the growth of their business.
The food, service, presentation and organisation of the event were spot on, a job well done by Kerri Everingham from the Chronicle and the Carriers Arms in Maryborough. Unfortunately the directions to wait out the front for the bus home were not clear. As I waited at the front of the event with others, not out the front of the premises on the street, we were left behind in Maryborough! An amusing lesson learnt for next year, though I hope Hervey Bay may have the opportunity to host this event in 2008.
A big thank you to the  Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce, your support and acknowledgment of our business growth and achievements through this award is thoroughly appreciated and a great honour. I feel we had better consider the possibility of joining to show our support and appreciation for the community / business work the Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce performs in our area.
